Billionaire Bill Gates during a conversation with actor and comedian Trevor Noah as part of the podcast What Now? shared his thoughts on the potential options for the influence of artificial intelligence on human life.
Mr. Gates says that the mentioned advanced technology may not replace human labor, but it has the potential to reduce the length of the working week, for example, to three days. Answering a question from Trevor Noah about the threat of artificial intelligence to jobs, he stated that one day there may come a time when people will not have to work so much.
The billionaire noted that a society in which a person has to work three days a week is probably normal. It can be assumed that in this case, the statement with some degree of abstract reasoning implies that shortening the working week is not a catastrophic scenario or a future option that has extremely negative consequences for the quality of life.
Bill Gates talks about the possibility of a world where machines produce all the food and other necessary products and at the same time people do not have to work more than five days a week to earn a living wage.
In the summer of this year, the billionaire expressed doubt that the impact of artificial intelligence will be as significant as the Industrial Revolution. At the same time, he noted that advanced technology will have the degree of impact that the introduction of personal computers had, clarifying that word-processing apps did not eliminate the need for office work, but changed it forever.
Despite this very positive assessment of the prospects for the use of artificial intelligence, Bill Gates recognizes the risks associated with the spread of advanced technology in case of misapplication.
