Ultrahuman Ring AIR Launches AFib Detection

Indian fitness and nutrition tracking startup Ultrahuman has launched the PowerPlugs platform for individual apps and plugins built on top of its wearable’s software.

With the new update, Ultrahuman’s smart ring Ring Air receives enhanced personalized health insights. Namely, the Ultrahuman ring can now monitor one’s heart rhythm to detect the most common type of arrhythmia – Atrial Fibrillation (AFib).

Afib is caused by high-speed and irregular beats from the upper chambers of the heart (usually more than 400 beats per minute). It can occur in sleep and remain undetected for a while. Without proper treatment, the abnormal heart rate can lead to serious health complications such as stroke and heart failure.

The PowerPlugs platform enables better customization as each individual’s health journey is unique. With its help, every individual can personalize their health tracking to fit their own needs and goals. For example, now Ring Air can inform a user about their natural circadian rhythms, the best times for caffeine consumption, optimal times for Vitamin D absorption outside, and more. The individual apps can provide personalized jet lag plans, weight loss journey tracking and recommendations, adjust your activity plans to pregnancy, optimize meal planning, etc.

“When it comes to health, one size doesn’t fit all. That’s why we built PowerPlugs for people to pick and choose what matters most for their health and wellness. Over the next few years, you could expect thousands of applications to be built on top of Ultrahuman’s comprehensive health data platform. Given our most comprehensive data stack of health markers from Ultrahuman Ring, M1 CGM, Ultrahuman Home and more to come, there’s infinite scope to build deep experiences over the next few years. Essentially, your Ultrahuman Ring will keep getting better after your purchase.”

Mohit Kumar, Founder and CEO of Ultrahuman

Ultrahuman has already offered a few tracking features that stood out among the common wearable offerings. Thus, the startup has earlier introduced a metabolic health tracking program Cyborg. It can track how a person’s body responds to what they’re eating via an arm-mounted continuous glucose monitor (CGM).

Ultrahuman’s smart ring complements this offering, with two wearable devices providing an all-round picture of one’s health. If you have both sensors, you get a sleep & fitness tracker with the bonus ability to give some dietary insights and prevent serious heart conditions. Although the AFib detection feature is now available with medical approval in limited markets only, the firm claims to obtain fresh regulators’ approvals every few weeks to expand the service as soon as possible.
