The Chinese company Alibaba on Thursday, September 19, presented more than 100 new models of artificial intelligence with open-source code.
Also, the mentioned firm boosted the capabilities of its proprietary technology. The corresponding achievement is expected to improve Alibaba’s competitiveness.
The company reports that its newest artificial intelligence models, dubbed Qwen 2.5, are designed for later use in various industries and apps. The corresponding machine intelligence systems can be integrated into functional environments in such spheres of activity as, for example automotive, scientific research, and gaming. Likely, a wide range of scenarios for the use of the latest artificial intelligence models will contribute to a significant commercial effect of new virtual products from Alibaba, which is currently one of the largest players in the Chinese technology sector.
The company claims that the AI models presented on Thursday have advanced capabilities in the areas of mathematics and coding.
Alibaba, headquartered in Hangzhou, is currently striving to increase its competitiveness against the background of solutions and offers from new-generation Chinese technology providers such as Baidu and Huawei. The company also intends to compete with US players in the artificial intelligence industry among which Microsoft and OpenAI.
The machine intelligence models presented on Thursday were trained on huge amounts of data. Alibaba claims that these virtual products can understand prompts and generate text materials and images. In this case, open source code is used, which means that anyone can use new artificial intelligence models to develop their apps based on AI. Within the framework of this practice, there is no need to train machine intelligence. This feature means saving expense and time.
Alibaba expects open source will contribute to forming the large user base of its latest artificial intelligence models. This company, which, among other things, is an e-commerce giant, presented its first AI model Tongyi Qianwen, or Qwen, last year. Since then, improved versions of this virtual product have been presented. The company claims that as of today, its open-source artificial intelligence models have been downloaded 40 million times.
Alibaba has also updated its flagship AI model called Qwen-Max. It is worth noting that this digital product does not have open-source code. The company sells its capabilities through its cloud computing products to businesses. Alibaba said the Qwen Max 2.5-Max is superior to competitors such as Meta’s Llama and OpenAI’s GPT4. The company claims that this advantage is observed in the context of aspects such as reasoning and language comprehension.
Moreover, Alibaba has launched a new text-to-video tool based on its artificial intelligence models. This tool allows users to input a prompt. Based on the relevant information, artificial intelligence generates videos. This tool is similar to OpenAI’s Sora.
Eddie Wu, chief executive officer of the company, says that Alibaba Cloud is investing with unprecedented intensity in research and development of artificial intelligence technologies. Also in this context, the desire of the firm to build its global machine intelligence infrastructure was noted.
Eddie Wu took over Alibaba last year. He is making efforts to boost the company’s growth against the background of conditions and circumstances such as increasing competition and the low level of activity demonstrated by Chinese consumers.
Alibaba expects its latest artificial intelligence-based products to be a source of stimulating user interest and a positive boost for the commercial component of its cloud services.
It is worth noting that during the period of active development and spread of machine intelligence, the issue of cybersecurity is of particular importance. Scammers also have access to relevant technologies, which is why their activities become more sophisticated. In the context of this challenge in the cybersecurity area, users’ awareness is of particular importance. For example, a query in an Internet search engine, such as how to know if my camera is hacked, will allow anyone to get information about signs of unauthorized access to the device.
