Residents can now show their coronavirus vaccination status, COVID-19 recovery as well as negative coronavirus tests digitally
The European Union’s digital coronavirus certificate can now be accessed not only in the EU but also in non-member states including Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway.
Five EU states are set to start issuing the certificates. However, 21 states as well as Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway are ahead of the issue dates.
The only country that is yet to start issuing digital certificates is Ireland. The country has cited recent Health Service Executive cyber-attacks as the reason for the delay.
In the future, the EU could accept digital certificates generated by non-EU nations such as the United Kingdom’s NHS Covid certificate. This will only be accepted if the EU is satisfied with the systems and standards put in place in the issuance of the Covid digital certificates.
