Investment giant Fidelity Investments is eyeing innovative financial services such as payments in metaverse and NFT marketplace
The latest trademark application filings from Fidelity show that the firm considers increasing its exposure and offerings?in Web3. NFTs and metaverse-based payments are among the most exciting opportunities for the investment company.
According to the three trademark filings submitted to the United States Patent Trademark Office (USPTO), Fidelity Investments could soon offer investment services within virtual worlds. These include metaverse-based mutual funds, retirement funds, investment management and financial planning.
Additionally, the firm plans to introduce?payment services in the virtual world as well. Namely, Fidelity might provide electronic bill payments, fund transfers, crypto?trading and management services, virtual currency wallet services, and the “financial administration of credit card accounts in the metaverse and other virtual worlds.”?Moreover, Fidelity could offer financial education services in the metaverse.
NFTs are another realm of Fidelity’s trademark plans. For instance, one filing says the investment manager could launch an “online marketplace for buyers and sellers of digital media, namely, non-fungible tokens.”
