Amazon had 24 hours to comply or it would have to pay a €1 million daily fine
According to Ecommerce News, Amazon must restrict its orders in France in the following weeks, due to a court decision. This way, Amazon can only accept orders of groceries, hygiene, and health-related products.
Earlier, the French union group Sud Commerce brought Amazon to court, claiming that more than 100 Amazon France employees were being forced to work in close proximity.
As a result, a court in Nanterre has now decided that during one month, Amazon may only deliver food, medical and hygiene products to its customers in France. According to the statement, Amazon France hasn’t done enough to protect its staff amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the same time, Amazon is going to appeal the verdict, as the company implemented daily temperature checks, 2-meter social distancing measures between employees and a tripling of its maintenance and cleaning workers.
