Users can find a place to charge their EV with Google Maps
Google announced a solution to the problem, which many of the electric vehicle (EV) drivers faced – when they drive to a charging station only to find that all ports are occupied and they have to wait in line for anywhere between minutes to hours.
Now, the company will show the real-time availability of charging ports in the US and UK right in its Google Maps app, allowing a driver to find out if there are available charges before they head to a station. To use this new feature, a user needs to search for “EV charging stations”. Then they’ll see up to date information from networks like Chargemaster, EVgo, SemaConnect and soon, Chargepoint, on how many ports are currently available, along with other helpful details, like the business where the station is located, port types and charging speeds. As always, there will be information about the station from other drivers, including photos, ratings, reviews, and questions.
The new feature is available on Google Maps on desktop, Android, iOS and on Google Maps for Android Auto.
