BNPL provider Klarna will provide its customers with sustainability data on their chosen brands, starting with the power-hungry consumer electronics industry
Klarna has partnered the sustainability tech platform?Clarity AI?to inform its global network of more than 150 million active shoppers about the environmental impact of their chosen brands.
The sustainability data will be initially provided regarding the consumer electronics industry. Clarity AI’s capabilities will allow shoppers to make sustainable choices across thousands of brands in 22 countries all over the globe.
When a consumer buys something from the electronics category, the information on the producing company’s environmental efforts will be displayed as brand badges. The badge information will show:
- the?company’s greenhouse gas emissions levels,
- a proportion of its energy derived from renewable sources,
- the availability of?climate change policies or a roadmap to ecological impact,
- and transparency in reporting its climate-related information.
With this new partnership, the companies wish to empower consumers to ‘vote with their wallet’ for an increasingly sustainable world.
The electronics segment is expected to produce around 14% of global emissions by 2040. Meanwhile, Klarna’s recent study has found that 62% of US-based shoppers find sustainability important when shopping for electronics.
Over two-thirds of Americans find it important that the brands they buy from actively combat climate change and produce their products from recycled or sustainable materials.
