The new Telegram update is a joy for those cherishing privacy: it enables users to create blockchain-based anonymous numbers instead of using cell phone details
Telegram’s new 9.2 update,?launched on Dec. 6 features the ability to?get a Telegram account without a SIM card. A new level of privacy is enabled by blockchain-powered anonymous numbers available on the Fragment platform.
Although the messaging platform already hides customers’ private phone numbers from non-added users, Telegram customers would now be able to reach ultimate privacy.
Fragment, a decentralised auction platform founded by Pavel Durov, already?sells user names compatible with Telegram. From now on, it would also support anonymous blockchain numbers. Purchases are completed via?Telegram’s affiliated token – The Open Network (TON).
While random numbers cost about $16 (9 TON), interested customers can make a bid in an auction to get a specific anonymous no-sim account. Currently,?“+888 8 888” has the highest bid of 34,729 TON ($63,901).
As for the additional privacy features, Telegram 9.2 expands user control over their message history. Customers can now set a global auto-delete timer to automatically remove messages in all new chats. Besides, auto-deletion becomes easier for existing chats and small private groups.
Generating a temporary QR code?will now let you instantly add new contacts without revealing your phone number.
Finally, admins of groups with over 200 members can give a try to the new Aggressive mode for the automated spam filters.
