Online consumers tend to rely on the reviews they read in online stores or on social media websites
Ecommerce News says Facebook and eBay have agreed to fight fake and misleading reviews on their websites. They have made the pledge after the Competition and Markets Authority in the UK told them to address this problem.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) revealed that more than 3 out of 4 people are influenced by reviews while shopping online.
In summer 2019, the CMA complained about the trade of fake and misleading reviews on Facebook and eBay. After that, Facebook has removed 188 groups and 24 users accounts, while eBay permanently banned 140 users.
