UnionPay will soon reach 100% coverage in the country
UnionPay partnered with South Pacific Bank (BSP), the largest bank in Papua New Guinea, to enable all the POS terminals of the BSP to accept UnionPay’s contactless payment service QuickPass, UnionPay’s contactless payment service.
In addition, UnionPay International has also entered into acceptance cooperation with Kina Bank. It is expected that UnionPay will reach 100% acceptance in Papua New Guinea in the first half of next year.
Papua New Guinea is China’s largest investment partner and important energy supplier in the region. In this context, UnionPay International has continued to improve its acceptance network in the country. So far, all the top three banks in Papua New Guinea have enabled their ATM and POS terminals to accept UnionPay cards. The acceptance coverage rate of UnionPay cards has reached 90%.
With the completion of the local chip migration, BSP is further enabling its POS terminals to accept UnionPay IC card QuickPass and UnionPay mobile QuickPass, covering various consumption scenarios most frequented by tourists. At the same time, ANZ in Papua New Guinea also enabled the UnionPay QuickPass service and the other banks will enable soon.
